A NEW barbershop has opened in Brampton last month, and has had fantastic business within its first month.
Headed by newly qualified barber Ben Lewis, aged 30, the barbershop is described as traditional in theme, but with the same modern services that are expected of all barbers.
Ben Lewis said of his first month running the shop: "It is absolutely brilliant.
"The support I have had had from all of my friends and my family has been fantastic.
"I really wanted to focus on making this barber the best it can be.
"It took us a while to get open and ready, but I wanted to focus on quality.
"I would rather make a great shop slowly than a bad shop quickly."
Hairdressing runs in the family for Ben, and he said: "My mum is a hairdresser and has been for thirty-five years.
"I am now, because of this, working within her premises, but my business is still separate.
"I was training for it over a year ago, and my mum helped me through college."
The name of the business, '1840', was chosen because that is the year that it was built.
The building carries with it an interesting history, having been used for many purposes in its life so far.
The building is a Grade II Listed Georgian Building.
Ben Lewis said: "My mother and stepfather bought it as a restaurant and bistro.
"Prior to that, it has been everything under the sun.
"It used to be a working men's club.
"I have had someone tell me it used to be a police station as well.
"There is a certain kind of clientelle that I get here, people who are interested a lot in the building, and stay for the haircut.
"It's all about planning new things.
"People know they can put their trust in me.
"It is a traditional barbershop, but I do all the new stuff, hot towel shaves, etc.
"I can do anything."
