THE UK's new health secretary will update MPs on the planned lifting of Covid-19 restrictions later this month.
Sajid Javid, who replaced Matt Hancock as the UK's health boss on June 26 after Mr Hancock's resignation, is expected to address the Hose of Commons at round 5.30pm this evening - less than 48 hours after he took the role.
It comes after the final stage of easing lockdown measures was previously put back by four weeks from June 21 by the Prime Minister.
The planned easing was delayed amid concern over the spread of the Delta variant first identified in India.
A rise in cases of the variant in Cumbria has seen surge testing deployed and all Cumbrians between 12 and 30 asked to get tested as the authorities worked to control the virus.
Boris Johnson has reportedly told the BBC that people in England are "very likely" to be able to go back to normal life.
