A north Cumbrian serial fundraiser has received royal recognition for his recent work.

Cameron Stewart from Penrith helped to raise over 3000 cards for NHS staff across north Cumbria in April this year.

Cameron, 21, encouraged members of the public to send in Easter cards and cards of thanks, which were then delivered to former North Cumbria Integrated Care (NCIC) NHS Trust Chief Nurse, Anna Stabler, for distribution.

Cameron has now received a letter from the Queen's Lady in Waiting, Annabelle Whitehead, in recognition of his work.

The letter read: "The Queen wishes me to write and thank you for your letter in which you tell Her Majesty about the second campaign you set up to give a token of thanks to the National Health Service in Cumbria for the tireless work they have done, and continue to do, within the local community.

“The Queen was pleased to hear that by asking people to create homemade thank and Ester cards, you collected over three thousand cards which were being distributed to fourteen hospitals across the county.

“I am to thank you once again for writing as you did at this sad time, following the death on 9th April of The Duke of Edinburgh.”

Cameron, who was delighted with the letter, said he sees it as recognition for the work that members of the community did to support him as well as his own work.

He said: "I was very proud because I hadn't expected a letter back, simply because I sent one in April.

"It's really nice, personally, for me to think that she [The Queen] has read about our area and all the fantastic kind people [here].

Everyone who supported, made a card, or helped distribute them deserves that chance to see that and feel that appreciation for what they did."
