It was revealed this week that Ministers expect to continue to wear face masks in crowded areas and on public transport, despite the legal requirement to do so being lifted in England.
News came following a more cautious message to the public from Health Secretary Sajid Javid ahead of “freedom day” on July 19 in response to soaring coronavirus cases.
Last week, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the legal requirement for face coverings would be scrapped and said it would “depend on the circumstances” whether or not he would continue to wear one.
Sajid Javid said people should continue to wear face coverings in some indoors settings.
He added: “I think that what we’re trying to do is move from universal Government diktat to relying on people’s personal responsibility.
“Clearly there’s a big difference between travelling on a crowded Tube train and sitting, late at night, in a virtually empty carriage on the main railway line.”
Readers revealed whether they would be continue to wear their masks when indoors.
Reader Soleil Thompson stated: "Yes on a bus or train or doctors, probably not just popping into Spar for a loaf of bread."
Some readers did, however, warn that Covid-19 poses such a threat that not wearing masks may simply not be viable.
Claire Griffiths said: "Too much of a risk I think with the growing number of cases and I need to think about the people I come into contact with whilst at work."
Nicole Flannery emotively warned of the dangers of the illness adding: "After having Covid and seeing how poorly it actually made me I won't be getting rid of mine completely. Hands down, it was the scariest time of my life."
Brian Rincon appeared to suggest that the decision will now simply be an individual's prerogative either way.
He said: "The individual should make up their own minds."
