The fire service has warned the public to take care near open water this weekend.
As Cumbria enjoys a spell of sunny weather, Carlisle West Fire Station has asked the public to take care around open water which can pose a risk.
A spokesperson for the fire team said: "We hope everyone’s enjoying the lovely weather we are experiencing- but please be careful if you are planning a dip in our lakes or rivers to cool down.
"Open bodies of water can be a lot colder than they look, and every year numerous people get into serious difficulty in our lakes and rivers- and unfortunately not all of these incidents have a happy ending.
They said: "Please don’t enter open water by yourself, never combine swimming and alcohol, and only enter water if you are familiar with the hazards, current and water temperatures.
