Tributes have been paid to a teenage boy whose body was found in the River Eden yesterday.

Multicultural Cumbria paid tribute to the boy, who has been named Mohammad Abdul Hamid known as Hamid, 16, of Barrock Street, Carlisle.

The body was found in the river near Stoney Holme yesterday at about 11;45am.

A multi-agency search was launched on Saturday after police received a concern for welfare report on a teenager entering the water at about 9pm.

A spokesman for Cumbria police, said : "The circumstances are being investigated on behalf of the coroner.

"His family and friends are being supported by officers."

On their Facebook page, Multicultural Cumbria said: "So deeply saddened to here of the loss of such a young life. Our condolences and prayers go out to the family of Abdul Hamid in Carlisle who lost is life in the River Eden.

"Please take this opportunity to remember the deceased and his family in your prayers. Also, take this opportunity to internalise the reality of Death and our inevitable meeting with it regardless of age and health."
