The sun is shining and staff and animals at the Lake District Wildlife Park have been getting ready for the summer holidays.

Nobby the Lar gibbon has been up in the trees practising his singing and perfecting moves on his rope swing.

The black kite, Lanner falcon and hooded vulture have been diving and swooping, in preparation for the daily flying displays.

Meanwhile, the red pandas Mei Li and Charu have been practising sleeping up in their oak tree!

The keepers have been busy as usual looking after the animals, some of which have had some extra special treatment with the alpacas needing a shave. For some animals preparing for the summer has meant nothing more than soaking up the sun’s rays.

The ring-tailed lemurs and the black and white lemurs are expert sunbathers. They seem quite content facing their bellies towards the sun and watching their keepers working away.

Lemurs and the island of Madagascar that they come from, will be the focus of the summer holiday fun activities.

As well as around 50 different species of lemur, Madagascar has an abundance of weird and wonderful animals including the panther chameleon, tomato frog, giraffe weevil and the cat-like fossa.

In addition to the lemur talk where you can learn all about these endearing but endangered animals, there is a display in the undercover activity area and an informative quiz that goes around the whole park. There will be craft activities and indoor staff have been preparing materials ready for visitors to make their own animal tails.

King Julien will also be making an appearance on selected days over the next few weeks being up to his favourite antics.

The café staff have been busy preparing a variety of home-cooked meals, snacks, and treats. The new ice slush machine has been tried and tested and proving very popular on hot days! So do come and see us in the holidays and we hope that you have a fun, informative and enjoyable visit.
