Cumbria will see heights of 25 degrees Celsius this week just as the Government lifts all legal Coronavirus restrictions on “Freedom Day.”

Residents enjoyed a spell of heat wave conditions since the weekend and the hot weather is set to continue.

It is for this reason we are counting down a list of one of the best places to cool off- outdoor pools.

In Cumbria, we have a vast selection of outdoor pools to choose from.

In no particular order, here are some of Cumbria’s best outdoor swimming pools and lidos to visit this summer holiday.

1. LAZONBY & DISTRICT SWIMMING POOL, PENRITH

Lazonby’s outdoor swimming pool is ‘more than just a pool’, said Andrew Davies, who sits on the community pools committee.

“It’s more than an outdoor pool. It’s a place for people to get together and exercise,” said Andrew, also headteacher at Lazonby Church of England School. “It’s a stress reliever for busy people. Indoor pools are fabulous, but there’s something about an outdoor pool and actually being outdoors which makes all the difference.”

2. SHAP SWIMMING POOL, PENRITH

Cumbria is home to many secluded pools.

This one in Shap took second place according to a survey which counted the amount of hashtags it accrued on Instagram.

At more than 900ft above sea level, Shap swimming pool is England’s highest open-air heated pool.

Those living near by can relish in the fact that it will not be as busy as other pools due to its secluded location.

3. LODORE FALLS HOTEL AND SPA, KESWICK

Set in the beautiful Borrowdale Valley, this is a popular choice among residents.

The outdoor pool is also heated with “one of the best views seen anywhere,” said holidaymaker Sarah Thomlinson.

4. GREYSTOKE & DISTRICT SWIMMING POOL, PENRITH

Opening between 3pm to 6pm on weekdays and 1pm to 6pm on weekends, this outdoor pool in Greystoke is also a favourite. Local guide June Taylor said: “This is a superb outdoor heated pool. It was hard convincing the kids to get out.”

5. ASKHAM OUTDOOR SWIMMING POOL, PENRITH

A perfect place to cool off on a hot day, there is a small shop nearby that sells ice creams, drinks and snacks to users of the facility.
