News and Star readers have shared their frustrations after a Splash Pad has decided to close in Cumbria due to the rising coronavirus cases.

The splash pad had became popular with tourists and residents in Silloth but the council believe that keeping it open would endanger too many people.

Gillian Hayton said: "Another ridiculous decision encouraging people to go to unsafe swimming bathing places risking more lives and I was under the impression we were safer outside."

Stacey Cowan said: "If places like these stay closed children and families turn to beaches and dangerous rivers to keep cool."

Marie Dixon said: "Think the kids been through enough it is gorgeous weather switch back on and let them enjoy themselves."

Dianne Webb said: "Oh no what a shame the kids really loved it."

Other readers shared their grievances that similar facilities are remaining open across the county.

They also believe that this will only encourage people to use indoor swimming facilities.

Which may pose a further risk due to the more enclosed environment in regular swimming pools.

A spokesperson from the council said that the decision was made due to the rising number of coronavirus cases amongst primary school aged children in Silloth.

The Splash Pad may be switched on at a later date but for now the council are deeming it to be to unsafe.

Changes may be made in late July.
