A woman has been banned from driving after getting behind the wheel while drunk.

Lyndsay Burgess was at a friend’s home but felt it was inappropriate to stay any longer and was driving home when stopped by police, North and West Cumbria Magistrates Court heard.

Burgess, 30, of Dacre Road, Brampton, was banned for two years and told to pay a fine of £575 with court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £57.

The judge was told she has now arranged to travel to work at a Covid centre by bike.

A cannabis courier used cheap air fresheners and coffee granules to mask the smell of a 10kg criminal consignment hidden in a secret car compartment.

Cherno Bah, 43, was caught out while travelling northbound on the M6 near Carlisle on February 4 amid tight lockdown restrictions which prevented all but essential travel.

Concluding that more than 40kg could have been transported during the illegal journeys, Recorder Nuttall jailed Bah for 39 months.

A man has been fined after he admitted damaging a window.

Kelvin Dixon, 35, of Waver Street, Silloth, appeared at Carlisle Magistrates Court on Monday.

He faced one charge of property damage relating to an incident on July 4 in Carlisle. The court heard Dixon destroyed a window.

Dixon pleaded guilty and was fined £200 and ordered to pay £100 in compensation to the victim.

A man has been remanded in custody after he denied a charge of stalking.

Callum Johnson, 21, of Lowther Street, Carlisle, appeared at the city's magistrates' court at Rickergate on Saturday, July 17.

He faced one charge of stalking relating to alleged incidents between July 1 and July 16.

The court heard that Johnson's course of conduct allegedly caused the victim serious alarm or distress, and had a substantial adverse effect on her usual day-to-day activities. He is accused of approaching the female victim repeatedly at her workplace, trying to engage her in conversation and trying to hug her.

A retired doctor collided with an infirm elderly pedestrian in his car as she continued to cross a town centre road after traffic lights had changed from red to green.

Penny Bains was hit by a Ford C-Max as she walked over Main Street in Brampton just after 5.15pm on December 20 2018, in dark and rainy conditions.

Carlisle Crown Court heard 72-year-old Ms Bains suffered from a number of ailments, including rheumatoid arthritis, and walked “slowly, with the aid of sticks”.

He denies causing death by wreckless driving.

A 46-year-old man has been fined after he admitted possessing a class B drug.

Dale Theobad, of Brisco Meadows, Carlisle, appeared at the city's Rickergate Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

He faced one charge of possessing a class B drug. The court heard Theobald had a quantity of cannabis in his possession. The charge related to an incident on June 5 at Carlisle.

Theobald pleaded guilty to the charge, and was fined £80. He was also ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £34, and £85 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.
