Former Carlisle United star Clint Hill will take temporary charge of Bristol Rovers as manager Joey Barton takes time out after denying an assault charge.
Ex-Blues defender Hill, who is assistant manager at the Memorial Stadium club, will lead the team in their friendly against Havant & Waterlooville on Tuesday.
It comes as Bristol Rovers confirm Barton is taking several days out "to be with his family".
The Pirates' manager has pleaded not guilty to assaulting his wife Georgia by beating at a home in Kew, London, on June 2.
On Monday morning, Barton appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court via video link.
He spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.
Barton was released on unconditional bail until his trial at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on December 16.
Bristol Rovers issued a statement after his court appearance, which said: "Following the weekend's publicity and today's court appearance, Joey is taking a few days personal time to be with his family.
"Clint Hill will therefore lead the team for tomorrow night's friendly against Havant & Waterlooville."
Former QPR and Rangers star Hill ended his playing career with United in the 2017/18 season, when he was voted the Cumbrians' player of the year.
Barton has been manager of Bristol Rovers since February, after a previous spell in charge at Fleetwood Town.
Ex-Blues skipper Nick Anderton is among Barton's signings this summer.
