Plans for a new dog care centre in Willowholme have been approved by Carlisle City Council.
In a vision unveiled by applicant David McKenna, of Top Dog, plans were outlined for the centre at Unit 11 at Willowholme Industrial Estate.
Under the current plan, the centre will be open from 7.30am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday.
In planning documents, the applicant outlined that, pending licensing, the centre will be able to care for a “fixed number of dogs at one time” and this will be structured into “smaller groups with individual carers focussing on exercise, play and socialising”.
They also state: “The structured activities will occupy the dogs to prevent boredom, reducing the likelihood of long episodes of barking causing nuisance.
“There will be a rest area for any dogs that need a rest between activities. This smaller section will also facilitate new dogs’ introduction to day care in smaller controlled groups.”
The applicant added: “A designated isolation area will be available for any dogs that show signs of being unwell until assessment is completed or any dogs displaying high-level over-excitedness that need time out.”
Mr McKenna also added his commitment to ensuring the centre makes a valuable contribution in the wider community.
He states: “We will embrace a culture of continual personal development to build a confident, competent and compassionate team.
“All dogs will have vaccination histories checked before admittance and will undergo an induction assessment before being accepted into day care to ensure we continue to provide a safe environment for dogs and staff.”
The centre will also lead to the creation of a total of five jobs, including three full-time and two part-time jobs, with room for that number to grow to grow further and the potential to offer work experience places to local educational settings, plans state.
In summary, the applicant said: “We feel that this development will provide a much needed service, create jobs and be a positive addition to the area."
