A MAN found himself in court after buying a ‘novelty knife’ over the internet.

The court was told police noticed Peter Edwin Street, who was driving a blue VW caddy van in Penrith, because the front registration plate was not legal.

When Street, of Wetheriggs, Penrith, was stopped going into the Sainsbury’s car park he was found to have possession of small amount of cocaine and the knife was found later.

Steven Marsh, defending, explained the small knife was in the form of a credit card, two pieces of plastic and a small blade.

The 41-year-old pleaded guilty when he appeared at North and West Cumbria Magistrates Court in Carlisle to possession of cocaine, possession of a bladed article and failing to provide a breath sample. The offences took place on June 6.

Street was given a 16-week curfew between 7pm and 7am. He was disqualified from driving for three years and must pay a victim surcharge of £95 and £85 in prosecuting costs.
