Carlisle United's opening-day opponents Colchester have signed a new striker - and are aiming to bring in more new faces.

Fulham loanee Sylvester Jasper has joined the Essex outfit ahead of Saturday's trip to Brunton Park.

And head coach Hayden Mullins has said the U's are hoping to make further additions ahead of the weekend.

Speaking to The Gazette, he said: "We're still trying to do more business, which is good.

"We're not done yet and there are still places where we feel like we could strengthen and bring competition into that area.

"There could be a couple more new faces, which hopefully could get done.

"Whether they get done before tomorrow, I'm not too sure.

"I feel we've recruited really well and there's a couple more bodies that we really want to try and do."

Jasper, 19, has joined on a half-season loan.

He is the eighth player to join Colchester this summer.

Luke Chambers, Cole Skuse, Alan Judge, Freddie Sears, Frank Nouble, Luke Hannant and Cameron Coxe had already signed for Mullins' side with many likely to be involved at Brunton Park.

The U's this week sold forward Kwame Poku to Peterborough.
