AN inn that has been named best pub and bar in Cumbria has the community at the heart of everything it does.

The Woolpack Inn in Eskdale is owned by Paddington Berger with the help of her two children and is managed by Amanda Brown, who is a close family friend.

It welcomes visitors from across the country and across the world as they enjoy the stunning Lake District scenery.

The Woolpack has seven en-suite letting bedrooms, a seven-berth log cabin, separate staff accommodation, restaurant and bar space catering for up to 150, spacious beer garden and ample car parking.

Mrs Berger said: “It’s nice to be selected for Trader of the Week by a Cumbrian newspaper because that’s the place that we serve.

“All of our team are local so it was nice to win this along with the Best Pub in Cumbria Award last month.

“We’ve been really busy since we reopened once restrictions eased and we’ve noticed an increase in customers since being awarded it.

“We do try really hard and work hard to produce a very good product so it’s nice to get recognition back.”

The Woolpack Inn is deep in the Cumbrian countryside, but is close to some popular attractions including the La’al Ratty and Muncaster Castle and Gardens.

It is also situated close to Hardknott Pass, the country’s steepest road, which is a gateway to the central Lake District. This means plenty of tourists and holiday makers are able to pop in and sample the great service food and service the pub has to offer.

There are four other pubs nearby which Miss Berger said keeps herself and her team on their toes.

She added: “We have amazing customers who regularly visit the pub.

“We are very mindful of what they want and try to create a nice environment for them.”

The pub also holds a music festival once a year called Eskfest.

All of the food and drink served is locally sourced, with cider and beer on tap from Lake District breweries and delicious meat straight from Cumbrian farms.

Due to the high demand that the Woolpack is receiving at the moment, it is currently looking for new staff including a chef. A strong work ethic and a passion for delivering superb food are required.
