This week we have been looking back through our files from 1967 when the Evening News, as it was known then, was running a weekly feature on “Woman at Work”.
The newspaper’s photographer had visited the J Harradine and Sons Ltd sweet factory based in a building dating back to 1899 fronting on to Westmorland Street in Denton Holme, Carlisle. Always known locally as Teasdales, the sweet makers had operated under various company names before its closure in 2004. It was taken over in 1963 by Messrs Harridine and the name changed to Penguin Confectionery Ltd. The company was placed in receivership in1999 and again in 2000 after a management buy-out lasted only nine months. It was then taken over by House of York until 2003. Did you work there? Send us your memories.
