MAYOR of Workington Herbert Briggs carried out his first fundraiser on Saturday evening – to help his chosen charities Hospice at Home and Samaritans West Cumbria.
The Mayor and Mayoress invited people to join them on a cruise of Derwentwater, and joining them were the mayor and mayoress of Allerdale, Malcolm and Betty Grainger, as well a number of Workington town councillors and deputy mayor Will Wilkinson.
The passengers enjoyed an hour’s cruise on the lake with refreshments, followed by a sausage and chip supper on the shores of Derwentwater – all for £20 a ticket.
The mayor used this, his first fundraising event, to raise funds as well as having a good time.
It is not yet known exactly how much has been raised, but all the money will go towards the chosen benefactors.
