Cumbrian netball star Helen Housby has an eye on Grand Final glory Down Under.
The 26-year-old helped New South Wales Swifts to a dramatic semi-final victory over Giants last weekend.
The 62-61 victory saw the England star and her team-mates book their place in next Saturday’s Grand Final at the Nissan Arena in Brisbane.
Housby was joined by England team-mate Natalie Haythornthwaite as Swifts got the better of their opponents in a tightly-fought contest.
Giants will now take on West Coast Fever in the preliminary final for the right to take on Housby’s Swifts in the final.
The Cumbrian, from Drumleaning near Wigton, has spoken of her ambition to end the campaign with some Premiership silverware.
“Everyone wants to win it more than anything this year, just for a little bit of pay-off with all the movements and sacrifices,” she said, after recent Covid lockdowns in Sydney saw Swifts players remain in Queensland for several weeks as part of the Suncorp Super Netball series.
“The Swifts are historically a great club when it comes to finals and winning championships, so we want to continue that legacy and are going to do everything we can to bring the trophy home,” she added to ESPN.
Housby is in England’s 24-player squad for the Vitality Roses programme for of the 2021-22 international season, which will culminate with the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham next year when England will aim to emulate their historic 2018 gold medal-winning achievement.
