A spate of anti-social behaviour has been occurring on a housing estate in the local area.

Youths in Westfield, Workington have been causing issues for some residents.

Children and teenagers have been playing football near people’s houses and in some cases causing damage to residents vehicles and being verbally abusive.

Councillor Sean Melton said: “It’s down to the kids not having anything to do they need somewhere to go.

“As it’s the school holidays they’re more likely to be bored.

“The estate is generally a nice, quiet, place to live but some people are beginning to spoil it for others.”

According to reports children have been hitting cars with their footballs and damaging fences.

Most of them seem to be playing in large groups.

In some cases it is said that they have also been taking items out of people’s gardens.

The area that is being particularly effected is Garth Road and Windsor Road in Westfield.

Parents are being urged to keep an eye on their youths to avoid any further issues and disturbances.

Mr Melton believes that the area would benefit from funding for new football pitches which may keep the youngsters occupied.

He says that the police need to have more of a presence on the estate and deploy some PCSOs to the area.

This week he will be meeting with Conservative MP Mark Jenkinson for a walk around the estate.

Here they will discuss what can be done to tackle the issue.

The police have said that they will be monitoring the area and any children seen to be causing a disturbance will have their parents contacted.
