Helen Housby is celebrating after helping NSW Swifts to title glory in Australia.

The Cumbrian star played a key part in the Swifts' victory over Giants in the Super Netball final in Brisbane.

Carlisle-born Housby, 26, starred in the 63-59 victory as Swifts won their second title in three years.

She produced a vital interception in the closing stages as Giants tried to turn things around late on.

Housby, from Drumleaning near Wigton, later paid tribute to her team-mates and those who have kept the competition going amid the challenges of Covid-19.

Teams were forced to relocate states several times in order to keep the competition going, with the Swifts leaving New South Wales in June shortly before the state went into lockdown.

“It felt more like a tour of Australia with games thrown in at times, it was difficult,” Housby told the Brisbane Times.

“We are very thankful for everyone behind the scenes who kept the season going, all the sponsors and backroom staff. It’s not easy to do this.

“I think the girls today just stuck to the game plan and really executed, it was very hard work but I just couldn’t be happier,” she added.
