WORK has started on a project which will see two redundant rail buildings at the Haltwhistle railway station transformed.
When the project is completed the two empty buildings on platform two at the station will of been transformed into four small studios for small businesses, artists or start-ups and two much needed waiting rooms.
It is hoped that the work on the buildings will be completed by Christmas so that the new facilities can be used by the public as soon as possible.
Secretary of the Tyne Valley Community Rail Partnership (TVCRP), Julie Gibbon said: "We had our very first meeting about bringing the redundant railway buildings back into use back on the 30th April 2018."
Julie Gibbon has been involved with the Tyne Valley Rail User's Group (TVRUG) since it's created back in 2000 and the TVCRP since 2004.
On why she got involved in the groups Julie said: "Because I've got a local station on the line where I live and I wanted to see it thrive continue and see more trains stopping."
Last week the station was visited by Hexham MP Guy Opperman who posted on social media to say this was a "Truly innovative local project of restoration/job creation. Big thanks to the TVRUG and all the team."
