We are looking back 20 years to 2001 when Border Television celebrated its 40th anniversary. The popular Carlisle-based television station launched in September, 1961.
To mark the anniversary, a dinner was held at the Border TV headquarters in Harraby attended by many people who had worked for Border over the years, including some who went on to work on national TV such as Fiona Armstrong and Lis Howell. Some of the presenters from the very early days also joined the celebrations.
In the early days, Border mainly concentrated on local programmes, but later became well-known for its light entertainment shows. Everyone remembers Mr & Mrs which was one of ITV’s most-popular daytime quiz shows of the 1970s and early 1980s and presented by Cumbrian Derek Batey.
