A WAR veteran from Wigton has completed yet another challenge to raise money for an amazing cause.
Mark Harding, who was severely injured during the Afghanistan conflict, has been spending the past months doing his bit to raise money.
On Saturday he took part in a Walking With The Wounded walk at Grasmere to raise money for ex servicemen.
Mr Harding said: "It went really well, I was apprehensive at first due to leg pain but it went well.
"The walk was over ten kilometres but we had to carry our own kit which weighed around thirty pound.
"Lots of us began to struggle on the first hill."
He completed the challenge with people from the 4th Battalion Duke of Lancaster's Regiment.
Mark explained what he had done to help a woman who was also completing the walk which was truly inspiring.
At the start of the walk there was a very steep incline of around 700 metres.
A female walker called Debs Keirl was struggling to complete the uphill walk so Mark encouraged her to carry on.
Due to Mark's help the woman ended up staying with his team for the whole route.
At the end of the route Mark spoke to the Walking With The Wounded CEO Fergus Williams.
Fergus thanked Mark for helping the woman and congratulated him on completing the course.
Mr Harding said: "It's just about helping people, for me there's no limit on it.
"I always do what I can to give a helping hand."
Later on in the day as people were be accoladed and awards were handed out it was announced that Mark was to be awarded.
He won the Kevin Uglow Spirit Of Cumbria Award.
Mr Harding said: "I'm still took back that I've won the award."
Mark explained that Kevin Uglow had done a lot of work with Walking With The Wounded but had sadly passed away last year.
The award was then named after him to honour his contribution to the cause.
Mark said that he is continually training for the challenges that he undertakes.
He will often spend time running around Dodd Wood in Keswick.
He will drag a tyre along with him to improve his strength.
So far Mark has raised £270 by completing the walk but is looking to reach £500.
