A CARLISLE pensioner accused of raping a woman 30 years ago has been remanded in custody after a judge adjourned the case until mid November.
Paul William Shakespeare, 66, of Scaleby Close, Carlisle, was not present at the latest court hearing that was held to progress the case. He has yet to enter his pleas.
Shakespeare faces two allegations.
The first is that on April 29, 1990, at Cheltenham, he raped an 18-year-old woman. Details of the allegation not at this stage of the case be reported for legal reasons.
The second alleged offence, said to have happened at the same time, is that he possessed an offensive weapon, described as a "sharpened wooden stick" with a nail through it.
A judge at Gloucester Crown Court set the next hearing date as November 18.
