This week the gallery at Rheged previewed the Annual Exhibition of the Lake District Artists Society.
The exhibition will run from the 18th September until the 21st November.
The preview was opened by John Dunning, the Founder of Rheged as he and his wife Barbara are long time supporters of the society.
Mr Dunning said: "Barbara and I have been to the Summer Exhibition, and the previews, for more than 50 years and it has been a real delight throughout our lives.
"There’s a more vibrant group of artists in our county than elsewhere, and we needn’t look too hard to see where that comes from: there’s immense inspiration in the landscape and people and culture of Cumbria."
With the help of Rheged to society has been able to display the work of 260 artists.
Mr Dunning presented five awards for pieces of work that were truly exceptional.
Lyn Evans won the award for A Work on Paper, sponsored by Kent Valley Colour Printers, for Red Screes, inspired by the view of Clough Head near her home at the foot of Blencathra.
All artwork on display will be on sale.
