An old steam train has passed through Allerdale.
The Scots Guardsman was spotted at Workington Station on Sunday.
The train was was built in 1927 by the North British Locomotive Company in Glasgow and was named Scots Guardsman after the Scots Guards.
Discussing how it feels to still be seeing old locomotives continuing to travel on Cumbrian main lines, Dave Wallace, who volunteers for the Workington Railway Station and Transport Heritage Trust Fund, said: “The steam trains are part of our heritage. We invented them and it makes me proud to see them still running along the country.”
When asked what it is about steam engines that makes people want to see them, Dave continued: “The trains take you back to a golden age when everything about Britain was great. There’s a special kind of relationship with the steam trains, if you talk to it, it will talk back.”
After its fleeting visit, the train is set to be docked until next year. Mr Wallace said: “The trains need to run shorter distances. The less daylight means it would be difficult to see them. They strive on long summer days which allow people to travel from afar to see them.”
