A CUMBRIAN fell could be transformed into a high-speed sporting playground if plans to create a half-mile long bobsleigh style 'luge' track - complete with a chairlift - can win approval from planners.
Eden Valley landowner and businessman, Charles Lowther, has applied to Eden District Council for permission to construct the UK's first luge track on land he owns at Nord Vue at Armathwaite, near Penrith.
A 500-plus metre chairlift will transport visitors from Mr Lowther's lower fields at Nord Vue to the top of Blaze Fell, west of Armathwaite.
The application, which is already being met with concern from local residents, will see a three-metre wide concrete track constructed to cater for the wheeled sledges.
A public meeting has been called by Eden District Councillor, Gordon Nicholson, for local residents' to voice their concerns.
