A GROUP of litter pickers have been working hard throughout Carlisle to clean up the streets.
The Carlisle Southern Link Road Project Team has done it to support Big Green Week, a week dedicated to the awareness and action on climate change and environmentally friendly practices.
According to Cumbria County Council, it is part of the council's commitment to the environment and Big Green Week.
30 members of the project team picked litter from the cycle path from Denton Holme to Dalston.
Cumbria County Council said this was the first community activity for the project team, with a wide variety of further projects planned over the next three years - ranging from schools engagement to supporting environmental schemes.
Cumbria's 'Big Green Week', lasting from September 18 to September 25, is organised by a climate change charity called Cumbria Action for Sustainability, who say the week involves them working with a range of grassroots organisations to coordinate a county-wide series of community-level events during Great Big Green Week, covering diverse environmental themes including reducing waste, growing food, planting trees, local energy generation, film screenings, public engagement events, and more.
