A NEW takeaway is coming to Carlisle soon.
Red Chillies will open on the site of the old Surma takeaway on Denton Street, Denton Holme.
Those running the venture hope that it will open later this year.
The takeaway will serve Indian and Bangladeshi food, similar to what had previously been served in Surma.
Iftikar Hussain, a spokesperson for Red Chillies, said: "The owners hope to wow the local community with fabulous friendly service while moving into the Denton Holme area.
"They are very open to suggestions of different kinds of curries.
"We will have house favourite curry dishes and will introduce many more with changes of cooks from time to time when the business cycle demands it."
The original Surma Indian takeaway originally opened in 1998.
It shut in July 2020 after economic problems, which Mr Hussain said were provoked by the pandemic.
The property owners, Mahmud Ali and Nurun Nessa Khatun, ran Surma when it first opened.
They were also landlords former Dhaka restaurant in Carleton and the Bari Restaurant on West Tower Street.
The Denton Street premises is currently undergoing a renovation.
While Mr Hussain hopes that it will open before Christmas, he said that it could be the new year before Red Chillies is trading.
