With news of the petrol shortage across the UK, drivers have been frantically buying fuel for their cars in the fear that they will be without any fuel.
But in Cumbria it's the panic buying that is causing the problems. Michael Gatty, from Hills of Corby Hill told The News and Star on Friday that there is no problem with HGV drivers or supply in Cumbria but the excess of new business is what is causing problems.
The panic buying has left many in need of fuel having to go without, with many reporting having to drive for long periods just to find fuel.
The AA has told drivers not to “fill up outside of their normal routines".
“Even if the occasional petrol station is temporarily closed, others just down the road will be open," it said.
However, for many, including emergency services, fuel is required and with queues across many stations in Carlisle we’ve put together a list of the 24-hour petrol stations in the city to help you fill up responsibly.
24-hour petrol in Carlisle
Tesco – Warwick Road
Esso – Currock Road
Asda – Chandler Way
Shell – Carelton
Buy fuel as normal
The government continue to urge the public to buy fuel as normal, and to not panic stock.
A Government spokeswoman said: “There is no shortage of fuel in the UK, and people should continue to buy fuel as normal.
“We recognise the challenges facing industry and have already taken action to increase the supply of HGV drivers, including streamlining the process for new drivers and increasing the number of driving tests.
“We continue to closely monitor labour supply and work with sector leaders to understand how we can best ease particular pinch points.”
