Those who need aids and alterations in the home may be eligible for a disabled facilities grant.
Eden District Council is offering a grant to elderly people who are struggling with mobility.
Disabled facilities grants are designed to help people maintain their independence and stay safely in their own home, for as long as possible.
Works carried out under the works include: stair lifts, level access shower facilities, ramps, making the property wheelchair accessible and specialist toilet facilities.
To apply for a grant, the public need a recommendation from an Occupational Therapist. Adult Social Care can refer you to an Occupational Therapist who will visit your home when you telephone 03003033249
The Council said: “Disabled facilities grants are means tested in certain circumstances depending on the extent of the work required.
“This is to make sure that help goes to the people in the greatest need, the amount of grant you receive is decided after your own financial resources have been taken into account.”
