A councillor has hailed the importance of cycling ahead of a community event at a popular park.
Carlisle City Councillor for Currock, Colin Glover hopes the Super Cycling Saturday event at Hammonds Pond Park in Carlisle on 16 October will encourage more people to get on their bikes.
The Carlisle Community Cycle Hub will be on hand for the day to check and fix bikes.
There will also be e-bike taster rides, and pump track challenge fun rides.
On the benefits of cycling, Cllr Glover said: "It's got lots of benefits. It obviously helps the environment, but it also helps people with their health and fitness.
"We have to work together as councillors and cyclists to look at how we can make cycling as safe as possible."
On making cycling more accessible, Cllr Glover added: "It might be a long time since someone last used a bicycle and sometimes it's just about building a bit of confidence for people.
"It's also about working with those who make decisions to look at how we can further improve cycling networks, so that people feel as safe as possible going out on their bikes.
