The Met Office has warned of life-threatening flooding and has issued an amber weather warning for rain in the northwest of England. The warning is in place until 11:59pm on Thursday.
The Met Office warned that Cumbria will continue being hit with “persistent and heavy rain” until at least Thursday evening.
The rain and floods are having an affect on motoring, with many roads closed or facing delays.

The M6 remains open.
Windermere Car Ferry
The AA states: “Vehicle ferry not operating due to strong winds on Windermere Car Ferry between Bowness and Far Sawrey. And also high lake levels as there has been an excessive amount of rainfall overnight.”
Main Street
Road closed due to landslide on Main Street both ways between Brewery Brow (the Village Hall) and Bank Yard Road.
Heavy rain is expected across Cumbria overnight.

Road closed due to flooding on B5345 Low Road both ways from Woodhouse Road to Meadow Road.
Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service have urged residents to “be alert to the dangers of flood water”, warning never to enter flood water on foot or in a vehicle and to call 999 if life is it at risk.

Road closed due to flooding on B5300 both ways between A596 and B5301 (Greenow Corner). The road has been closed due to concerns about the tidal flow.
