I TOTALLY agree with the suggestion made by Eric Martlew some weeks ago to rename County Square as Elizabeth Square when the work to modernise the Citadel station and area are completed.
I did wonder why the proposed name in the plan, George Square, was chosen since it seems to be unconnected; basically which ‘George’?
Now I am aware that there is South George Street, which is behind the station, nevertheless Carlisle does have Georgian Way in place of George Street.
With the Platinum Jubilee of the Queen’s reign next year, an historic event for it may not happen in living memory again, I think that Elizabeth Square would be a fitting tribute which would also be cost effective!
