THE profits from a West Cumbrian author's latest crime novel will be donated to organisations that combat human trafficking and the abuse of women, which feature in his book.
Ron Salmon’s novel, The Duty, is the second in the DCI Suzanna McLeod series.
The story sees Suzanna leading her Edinburgh-based CID team on a journey of solid police work and inspired investigations.
Ron, who lives in Oughterside, said: "From Kincardine to Kolkata, DCI Suzanna McLeod is determined to find the killer of a young woman found mutilated and drowned, and track down the man who knifed her own team member.
"Illegal immigration, slavery, and brutality surface as she closes in."
The story was inspired by Ron’s experience in India, whilst volunteering with a social enterprise which helps women who have been trafficked into the huge red like district of Sonagachi, in Kolkata.
"I spent the best part of six years in West Bengal and heard many stories of girls that had been abducted or tricked into going to Kolkata for work, then forced to become prostitutes," he said.
"Their stories were heart-breaking. They inspired me to write about the plight of these women.’
He will donate all profits to the organisations mentioned in the book that continue to combat human trafficking and the abuse of women.
The Duty has been published on Amazon Kindle, under Ron's pen name Harry Navinski – a name he adopted when writing articles during his Royal Air Force career.
