Firefighters have been visiting a housing estate after a house fire last week.
Crews have spent the day completing safe and well visits on the Greenacre estate in Wigton after a house fire destroyed a family home.
A spokesman from Wigton Fire Station said about the fire:"We were called to a bedroom fire, alongside the Aspatria crew, at Burnside Wigton.
"Arriving at the incident the crew noticed thick black smoke and also requested the attendance of the Silloth crew.
"All three crews worked together to knock the fire that had started in the back bedroom of the property.
"It had also spread onto the landing and into the bathroom. The whole upstairs of the property was engulfed in black smoke.
"Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels and thermal imaging cameras to bring the fire under control.
"Once the fire was extinguished, more firefighters entered the property to remove any remaining materials that were involved in the fire. Firefighters then removed the ceiling to ensure it hadn’t spread into the loft space.
"Luckily nobody was harmed in this incident, which is thought to have started by smoking materials.
"Please can we ask everyone to be extra safe when smoking inside a property and also check smoke alarms regularly."
