It is no secret that it is easier to lose weight than it is to gain weight. This is especially true for long-term weight loss.
This makes it even more important to approach weight loss as a permanent change in lifestyle and focus on developing healthy and, importantly, sustainable habits. And equally crucial is to getting support to make these changes.
The accomplishments of two members of the local Slimming World are impressive examples of this transformational change.
The first member, Olivia, of Carlisle, was diagnosed with gestational diabetes during her second pregnancy. This inspired her to make permanent changes from her regime of skipping meals and bingeing to compensate.
Her Slimming World group helped her through the process, and she knew it was absolutely something she could achieve.
She said: "I make the time for my group each week. It keeps me consistent and inspired, and motivated with ideas for the week ahead.
“My son is now 10 months old and still fully breastfeeding while I’m healthily losing weight and becoming more confident.”
Another brilliant transformation was undergone by Sheryl, who found herself feeling depressed and unmotivated. She sought advice from her doctor.
Her family and friends encouraged her to go to her local Slimming World group. Her initial nervousness was eased by the many friendly faces of people in a similar situation.
Sheryl has now lost over 30lbs in five months. She can now enjoy her favourite foods and is cooking more and spending time with the children to make healthy meals as well as sweet treats.
Her Slimming World group helped Sheryl analyse how she shops and cooks, and how she can make healthier choices in everyday life.
But this is not the end of the positive news. Owing to their brilliant work and determination, Sheryl and Olivia have been invited to the consultants opportunity.
They will now be able to help others who find themselves in the situation they once were, and motivate them to achieve what they did.
Sheryl will take over the Thursday evening group session in Workington, at St Mary’s Parish Church, at 5.30pm and 7pm.
Olivia groups will run Monday evening groups in Whitehaven, The New Life Church at 5.30pm and 7pm.
