A PHOTOGRAPHER and filmmaker who captured the tranquility of the Lake District during lockdown has been nominated for film festival in Pakistan.

The film-poem by Henry Iddon, from Blackpool, has been nominated as part of the Pakistan International Mountain Film Festival, only one of the three mountain film festivals in Asia.

'All at Once', which includes shots of the Lake District and Keswick town centre, was filmed on May 8, VE Day bank holiday, when celebrations were to take place throughout the UK but due to Covid-19, Henry caught a particular "astonishing" and isolated moment in time.

The film, shot in 4k, is serenely soundtracked by poet Mark Goodwin, who gives a mash-up and retelling of one of William Wordsworth’s most famous Lake District poems - 'I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud'.

Henry described Mark as a "wonderful poet" with a contemporaneous special style and rhythm.

He said he was very pleased to have the film recognised by the festival, of which he was previously a judge at their similar Kathmandu awards.

"I honestly don't think many people will have done much filming during lockdown in the Lake District, I don't even think the locals were going out" he said, making the footage all the more archival.

"Hopefully I've captured the beauty of the land for what it is by filming when nobody was there, in a sense it's like it would have been in Wordworth's time, when there would have been very few people there.

"People travel to the Lakes to gain an idea of the beauty and tranquility of Wordsmith but because everyone goes, they don't often get that.

"Very few people will get to witness the beauty of the lakes empty," he said.

Thanks to Henry being part of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ), he was classified as a frontline worker and was allowed to bypass the strict lockdown regulations.

The photographer was taken aback standing on the hill of Gummer's How onlooking the one-off desolate landscape of Windermere, without a moving boat or kayak in sight.

'All At Once' was nominated just before Christmas, with the winner set to be announced just before the New Year.
