RECENT reports say that a recommendation for Holy Trinity Church in Wigton Road, Carlisle, to close for worship has been approved by the Bishop of Carlisle and a formal consultation process is going on before a final decision is taken.

The church replaced the original Holy Trinity Church which was built around 1828-30 on a triangular plot between Wigton Road and Newtown Road.

That building became unsound and was demolished in 1982.

We’ve looked back through our archives and found pictures of the original church, the demolition work and some of the many community events and services that have been held in the current Holy Trinity building in Wigton Road.
