The Carlisle Castle is to undergo renovations as part of a conservation project.
The project's aim is to address issues of water damage, and to preserve the 15th century prisoner's carvings.
For this reason, we decided to take a look back through our photograph archives to see what the Carlisle Castle meant to everyone in Carlisle, and North Cumbria, and the many uses it has had over the years.
Whether is be a venue for a sporting event, such as the Great Cumbrian Run, a spooky ghost and horror tour, a site of remembering the fallen, a venue for social events like Cumbria Pride, or simply as a historical and educational tool, the Carlisle Castle has been in our lives in more ways than one.
