Copeland MP Trudy Harrison is encouraging her constituents to think about entering into the UK Parliament Awards.

The awards recognise those who have went above and beyond to give a helping hand to those around them.

There are a number of different categories that you can enter into with the opportunity to be awarded by the UK Government.

Mrs Harrison said: "I have always been a strong supporter of UK Parliament Week, and have enjoyed many visits and online sessions with pupils and organisations across Copeland to answer their questions and help them learn more about Parliament and the democratic process.

"This included a visit to Waberthwaite School in November during last year’s UK Parliament Week, where I saw democracy and decision-making in action following the creation of their new School Council. I have also been delighted to meet the School Councils at Monkwray School (Whitehaven) and Keswick School in recent weeks."

There are six categories that people are organisations can be nominated into and the deadline for applications is January 31st.

The categories include: Community Campaign of the Year, Digital Campaign or Campaigner of the Year, School of the Year, Teacher of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and UK Parliament Week Activity of the Year.

The awards ceremony will be held in March 2022 and if you get into one of the categories you will be invited to the event.

It will be held in the centre of London with the venue overlooking the River Thames and the Houses of Parliament.

Winners will receive a trophy and a digital badge and the awards system gives people a chance to display the positive contributions that they've made.

Participants can either nominate themselves or someone else and the work could include something you've done for the community or online amongst other things.

Mrs Harrison added: "I am encouraging Copeland constituents to consider entering the UK Parliament Awards, which recognise the fantastic individuals who have made a difference in our communities and beyond.

"This is open to both those who took part in UK Parliament Week, and those who did not. If you’ve made a difference in your community or helped to promote democracy, you could be in the running for a UK Parliament Award."
