Carlisle United fans have reacted to the side’s disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Sutton United.

The South Londoners are new arrivals to the Football League having been crowned National League champions last season.

Two first-half goals from Isaac Olaofe and David Ajiboye were enough for the weekend’s visitors.

The Cumbrians once again came up seriously short as they went a third League Two game without scoring.

And the Blues' showing did little to contest the view that more attacking reinforcements are sorely needed as last night's transfer deadline crept ever closer.

The Blues remain eight points above the relegation zone but there was little else to cheer at Brunton Park for the 4,399 crowd.

United boss Keith Millen handed an immediate debut to Dynel Simeu, days after the Southampton defender joined the Cumbrians on loan.

The team have a couple of fixtures in the Manchester area this week, as they face Salford this evening before an away fixture to Rochdale at the weekend.

On the News and Star’s Facebook page, supporters shared their anger over the club’s current form.

To the point, Dave McDonald commented: “Normal service resumes…”

Stephen Brown offered his post-match analysis, sharing: “They were completely clueless. Absolutely frozen solid watching them. I won't be returning for a while now. Hartlepool and Sutton have finished me off.”

Anthony Stevenson stressed that the club are in urgent need of an attacking presence. He said: “We are desperate for forwards and they bring in a defender? The young lad up front is totally out of his depth. Why is he playing Mellish up front when at best he’s a midfielder/defender. So many things wrong except for Rod McDonald who has been outstanding. If this continues they will struggle to stay up!”

Karl Robinson shared his fears over the underperforming side. He commented: “What a mess Carlisle United are in. There’s talk about budgets some of the clubs in and around the top of the league have, they have smaller budgets than us! We are still right in it and Oldham have a game in hand. We can’t keep relying on them and Scunthorpe losing; we have to pull away or we will go down again!”
