The owner of Carlisle’s Blank Wall Assassins has shared his delight after two works in Carlisle were voted in the top 100 pieces of street art in the world.

Ben Heslop took to the group’s Instagram to announce that the pieces were named 42nd and 66th best in the world in a list compiled by Street Art Cities, the biggest community of street art hunters in the world.

The pieces listed were Tymon de Laat's designed painting of a girl from Laos is located on the side of the u-Student building on John Street and Australian artist Smug's Belatucadros depiction is situated on top of the old city walls.

Speaking as the nominations were named, Ben said: "It's about pride of the city and even making the top 100 just shows what we can offer in the way of public art and who we can attract to the city.

"In these increasing times of people feeling the high street is dying and are wanting things to do, it's another chance for people to look at the environment they live in and look at it differently."

Tim Marschang from Street Art Cities said: "Street Art Cities scans the internet for the latest and coolest urban art across the globe.

"We take it upon ourselves to select 100 artworks for “our best of” shortlist and then let our audience do the rest. Through a series of Instagram polls people vote for their favourite art(ist)work, making our task easier as we don’t have to choose the best ourselves.

"These polls reach over 100,000 Instagrammers and helps them (re)discover some new talents."
