FLOOD warnings have been issued across the west coast of Cumbria today as Storm Eunice sweeps across the nation.
The warnings are in place from Silloth to St Bees and indicate that 'flooding is expected.'
Today, February 18, the tide was much higher than usual at its 12:30pm peak, with storm force winds, large waves and spray overtopping on the coast.
A spokesperson from the UK government said: "Large waves and spray overtopping are forecast to cause flooding along the coast from Silloth to St Bees Head including Allonby, Maryport, Flimby, Workington, Parton and Whitehaven.
"Impacts are possible two hours either side of high tide forecast, at 12:30pm.
"Further unsettled weather is forecast, as a result we may issue further alerts and warnings over the next 2 to 3 days. Our incident response staff are closing flood gates and checking defences.
"Stay away from beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous."
