TEN percent of all bulls sold at the highly-anticipated second Spring bull sale at Borderway Mart came from the Norman family's farm at Little Orton, near Carlisle.

The Carlisle mart, owned by leading livestock auctioneers, Harrison & Hetherington, saw the Norman Farming Company's Norman Regal sell for 14,000gns.

Regal, a March 2020 bull, has NT821/Q204X myostatin and is out of the homebred cow, Norman Onyx, who is sired by the noted 24,000gns Claragh Franco, and sired by the homebred Norman Largo, who was the sire of several bulls on the day.Largo goes back to the noted AI bull Plumtree Fantastic.

Norman Largo has been used by the family for five years, and, they say, has proved himself as a very easy calving bull with great shape and muscle.

Regal relocates across the country to TH and M Rutherford, Low Eshells, Northumberland.

The Norman herd consists of all Pedigree Limousin cattle with 140cows plus followers.

To keep moving forward producing easy calving and well muscled cattle the Norman Farming Company, consisting of Craig, brother Mike and parents Eric and Elaine, purchased the Reserve Senior Champion Frogmore Ronaldo for 15,000 gns.

This March 2020-born bull is out of homebred Foxhillfarm Oriel who won second at Red Ladies Derby 2018 and sold for 10,000gns. Ronaldo is sired by Ampertaine Magnum who sold for 70,000gns in October 2017. He has double F94L myostatin with figures supporting easy calving and short gestation, and a Beef Value of LM35.

sired by the 70000gns Ampertaine Magnum and out of the 10000gns Foxhillfarm Oriel who was second at Red Ladies Derby 2018.

"We aim to breed bulls for the commercial producer that will be an asset to their herd by being both easy calving and easily fleshed. It was great to see that again a number of our bulls sold to repeat customers and we hope that we will be the first place our new customers will look to in the future," said Craig.

The family will have another team of bulls entered in the May Limousin Bull sale at the Borderway Mart in Carlisle.

Commercial and pedigree buyers stormed their way to Borderway Mart for the second Spring bull sale of the year.

Ninety bulls achieved an average of £7,895 with a clearance rate of 77 percent. Greatly supported by commercial and pedigree breeders, the sale ring was bustling with excitement for the day ahead.
