A former police officer will be walking over 300 miles in 13 days, and will be stopping off in Cumbria en-route.

Chris Devney, from Worcestershire, will be trekking cross-border to raise vital funds for charities dear to his heart, PTSD UK and Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.

The 59 year old will be setting off at 5am from Edinburgh Castle on April, 12 with the finishing line set for one of Midlands Air Ambulance Charity’s airbases at RAF Cosford.

If all goes to plan, the trekker will be stopping for overnight stays in Carlisle, Penrith, Kendal and Lancaster on the way.

Chris, who is a motorbike enthusiast, was sadly involved in an accident of his own, of which Midlands Air Ambulance Charity attended the scene, spurring on his intention to highlight the life-saving service.

"Castle2Cosford will give me the opportunity to raise both awareness and much needed funds for two amazing charities. Midlands Air Ambulance Charity provides time critical, advanced care to all communities across the six counties it serves," he said.

Midlands Air Ambulance Charity annually hosts Bike4Life Ride and Out Festival, a day highlighting bike safety and provides a great day out for riders - Chris will also be raising awareness for this event.

"As a keen motorcycle fan, I want to raise awareness of Bike4Life and encourage bikers to sign up to this not to be missed day out.

"I also want to raise awareness of PTSD. Anyone can suffer post event, be they the patient, their families or even the emergency service crews like those on-board Midlands Air Ambulance Charity’s aircraft and critical care cars.

"PTSD UK provides education and information on the symptoms, causes and treatments available, no matter the initial trauma," he said.

This won't be the first time Chris has raised funds for the charity that helped save his life, as he has already participated in two walking mammoth challenges - raising over £7,000 for the registered charity.

Hanna Sebright, chief executive for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity said:

"With no Government funding for our daily lifesaving missions, we’re extremely thankful to have people like Chris who continue to go above and beyond for our charity, to help us raise the funds we need to keep saving lives."
