Councils across Cumbria are taking applications for grants to help provide homeowners with energy saving measures amidst the energy crisis.

It is estimated 43,000 homes in Cumbria are eligible for the The Green Home Grant Local Authority Development.

Eden District Council will be offering up to £10,000 to eligible homeowners in their Eden Green Homes Grant, with intentions to provide solar panels, air source heat pumps and external wall insulation, in its bid to help reduce fuel poverty and tackle the climate emergency throughout the region.

All costs are covered by the grant funding, with no money needing to be paid back.

Cllr Judith Derbyshire, Housing and Health Portfolio Holder at Eden District Council, said:“We work closely with E.ON to deliver the Green Homes project and hope that together we will be able to provide sustainable solutions to insulation and heating of properties and provide access to a reputable, trusted supply chain for installation of measures.

“As part of the scheme, measures have been installed to homes in the district to achieve more heat-efficient properties which increase comfort, financial savings and sustainability.”

Residents however are being urged to apply as soon as possible, as the grant is available on a first-come, first-served basis and will be closing on the March 31.

To be eligible households must have a household income of below £30,000 and an EPC rating of D, E, F or G, and if you're unsure of your household rating, you can apply to scheme for an assessment before eligibility is decided.
