A FAMILY farm with its outlet on a motorway service station came out on top at the Cumbria Food Awards.
The awards on March 3 at Kendal College saw Tebay Services taking a winning spot.
The family business has a farm and kitchen dining areas, as well as its own butchers on the site.
They farm Herdwick mutton and native-breed cattle and the farm surrounds Tebay Services; where livestock can be spotted in the pastures adjoining the buildings.
The retailer said: "We are delighted to have been named Specialist Food Retailer of the Year at the Cumbria Food Awards.
"These new awards recognise excellence in Cumbria’s food and drink industry, and the inaugural awards ceremony at Kendal College brought together top chefs, managers, innovators and artisan producers to celebrate resilience, creativity and talent in our county.
"It was an honour to be recognised by the judges for championing local food and helping to put Cumbrian food producers on the national map.
"We’re really proud of our farm shop and butchery teams and all the brilliant local producers who supply us."
The event was hosted by Dave Myers, who said: “I’m delighted and honoured to be hosting the Cumbria Food Awards 2022. I’m very proud of Cumbria and especially its place in the food world.”
