Border City Amateur Boxing Club have declared their first open show in Carlisle as a big success.
The sell-out event at the Milton Hilltop Hotel in Carlisle saw 18 city boxers on the card.
And it brought a host of victories for some of the young fighters on the Border City books.
The club’s home show attracted boxers from across the north of England and Scotland, including some from fellow Cumbrian clubs Wigton ABC and Barrow ABC.
Double English and national champion John-Joe Carrigan led the way for Border City in his bout against Scottish champion Romell Marks from Greenock.
“John-Joe boxed to instruction and won every round to claim a unanimous points win in an entertaining bout,” said coach and co-founder Ian Archibald from Border ABC.
“His younger brother William was up against another Scotland boxer in Rob Roy novice champion Logan Higgins, with Carrigan picking up a unanimous win.”
Border City’s Cavan Dand also chalked up a victory for the club with a unanimous win over Essa Hussain from Logan ABC in Scotland.
Another impressive showing came from schoolboy Mason Watson, who produced what Archibald described as a “perfect bout” to claim a unanimous win over Lewis Watson from Bluevale, Glasgow.
That earned him the boxer of the night award.
His brother Jenson Watson, meanwhile, picked up a split decision win over Alex Simpson from Halewood ABC in Liverpool.
The home show was the latest in a number of successes for Border City ABC.
In December, the Shaddongate club’s Ike Ogbo was crowned England Amateur Super-Heavyweight champion and is currently being assessed by Team GB coaches.
The club’s next show is on Saturday, May 21.
“These shows couldn’t take place without all the volunteers involved. Thanks to all the officials, coaches and travelling clubs. It’s great that we have some top clubs to work with and we look forward to working with you all again,” the club added.
