Both Maryport and Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team were called out to ensure the safety of two bodyboarders on Friday afternoon (March,11), after receiving 999 calls from the public.

The bodyboarders were spotted near the vicinity of Nethertown, with the teams being dispatched by Belfast Coastguard.

A spokesperson for Maryport Coastguard said: “We made visual contact with them in the vicinity of Nethertown, either having made their way up the coast, or drifted with the incoming tide and onshore wind.

“We maintained a visual contact until St Bees RNLI arrived on scene and were able to confirm the individuals were safe and offered the pair safety advice,” they said.

During the time, the Maryport Rescue Team were there at the moment to lend further aid by assisting a vehicle that had been ‘rendered immobilised’.
